A three act bill last Friday night at Johnny Brenda’s. First up was JJL, a stripped down band consisting of members from Philadelphia act Like A Fox. Their sound can be described as if Neil Young started using a sampler. Nice, folksy & fun.
Next act was another side project band, Sunshine Recorder. Rocking psychedelic sounds made up of members from Philadelphia band The Cobbs. Sunshine Recorder has an awesome stage setup where they brought their own floor lighting and trigged it at certain points of the song with a foot switch. Very cool.
Finally the headliner, L.A. based band Earlimart. I honestly had never heard of them before this show, but it was cool to see a indie band draw a crowd of fans who knew and sang along to the lyrics. Aaron Espinoza played a mixture of guitar and tweaked a sampler. For most of the night he did his between song banter with a faux English accent. Between bad British accents and bitching about the fog machine, they pulled in a decent set.
