The nice thing about Lawrence, KS is that you can wander into almost club or bar and find some new and wonderful band playing a set. So, as if seeing Motion City Soundtrack up the street at Liberty Hall weren’t enough excitement for one night, Josh and I decided to go to yet another show about a block away at the Replay Lounge.
We walked into the venue in time to catch part of Canadian indie pop group The Coast‘s set, which was a fun mix of rock and dance. I don’t expect to see them playing small venues like this much longer and I don’t think they expect to, either. They played like they were playing to a crowd five times the size of the group that was there. Their energy level was through the roof.

Following the young guys in the Coast were the more seasoned rock veterans Dressy Bessy. Fronted by the fiesty Tammy Ealom, these Denver rockers have been on the scene for a long time and just recently dropped a new album. They seemed less energetic than previous performances I’ve seen them at, which might be due to the late hour of the show. Although, as the set went on, they did seem to pick up in momentum. Whatever the reason for the slow start, these guys still deserve to be better known because even at their personal low for energy, they can still deliver a tight set. Also, while I’ve seen them be more energetic by their standards, they were still significantly more rocking than many band’s that I’ve seen.
