Q-Tip, of the famed A Tribe Called Quest, is releasing his new album The Reinaissance tomorrow, November 4th through Universal Motown and on Thursday, November 6th, will perform an intimate, free show at Philadelphia’s Trocadero Balcony (1003 Arch Street) for 200. The show is 21+ and is on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 11PM, with the show starting immediately thereafter.
As one of the founding members of the forward-thinking Native Tongues collective A Tribe Called Quest (alongside other notable acts such as De La Soul, Black Sheep, Jungle Brothers, etc.), Grammy award winner Q-Tip has solidified himself as a name synonymous with hip-hop innovation. With his recognizable high-pitched delivery and knack for vivid storytelling, Q-Tip, along with his cohorts in A Tribe Called Quest, came to be known as one of the most important acts in hip-hop history due to their laid-back, bohemian vibe, atypical jazz-inspired musical sampling, and the creation of a music that rivaled the hardcore posturing that was prevalent on both coasts of the country during the group’s heyday.
Q-Tip closed the Nineties with his first gold-certified solo album, Amplified, the crossover smash Vivrant Thing, and collaborations with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, REM, and Missy Elliott. His new solo album The Renaissance features guest appearances from Raphael Saadiq, Norah Jones and others. The Renaissance illustrates Q-Tip’s versatility as an artist and showcases exactly why he continues to remain relevant in the hip-hop game of today.
Don’t miss out on the amazing opportunity to see Q-Tip in such an intimate setting anf for free this Thursday!
