Cory Chisel Celebrates Obama

In celebration of Elect , has recorded a cover of Sam Cooke‘s “A Change is Gonna Come”.  Arcade Fire used the song in support of  Obama’s nomination for President of the United States and other notable artists who have covered the song include Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Billy Bragg, the Fugees, Cold War Kids, Otis Redding, Tina Turner, and The Supremes.

It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.
-President Elect, Barack Obama

Those words, spoken on the night of November 4th by Obama, were instantly recognizable to most Americans listening intently to our next President’s victory speech. A paraphrase of the chorus from the 1964 single “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke, Obama drew on his campaign’s “Change We Can Believe In” slogan to include a song that’s been applied to numerous American struggles over the past 40+ years.

A live heartfelt version of this song is presented by singer-songwriter Cory Chisel. Likened to a modern Dylan, Chisel’s soulful vocals and spare guitar seem to have been made to play this song.
