Andy Yorke – Simple

United Kingdom artist , younger brother of the infamous of , is bringing his own sound to the music spectrum on his new album Simple. After retrieving brief success with his 90’s group , Andy had learned the ropes of the music business and he is a fast climber. It definitely doesn’t hurt having a little family connection in the business. One thing is for sure, there is a lot of talent radiating out of that gene pool.

Simple dropped November 18th with some great anticipation. Andy brings some darker elements to his sound with the feeling of a tune or something along the lines of , yet a little more poppy with radio appeal. The album begins with the slow-tempo title track “Simple”, with a soothing voice that reminds me of “Nightswimming”, an R.E.M. song mixed with a pinch of .

Andy really covers all of the bases of songwriting with this new album. He covers life decisions and crossroads with “Found the Road”, self perseverance with “Twist of the Knife” and “Rise and Fall”, love and passion with songs like “One In a Million” and “Always by Your Side”. He writes of hope with “ Let It Be True” and the absence of hope with “Surrender”.

The last track on the album, “Ode to a Friend”, starts off with a Radiohead, In Rainbows rhythm and tempo. Then it starts to pick up and a piano comes in with slow drawn out singing that all of the sudden sounds like “How it Ends” by . A good tune overall that does a good job at paying homage to this friend of his. Could his friend be his brother? Probably. Though, if Thom Yorke was not his brother, I think Andy Yorke would be in the same place he is today. Andy has got some talent of his own and he’s taking it places.
