Remix Monday: Royksopp “Happy Up Here”

is a highly talked about band, particularly in Europe, from which they hail, specifically Norway. They have released three albums, the latest of which, Junior, came out in March. Lead single off of the album is “Happy Up Here”.royksopp

.“Happy Up Here”
“Happy Up Here” is a summery, upbeat, mid-tempo track, filled with keyboard bleeps. It’s an ideal song to walk down the street to in good weather. It’s primarily an instrumental song with subtle female vocals singing a chorus and a quick verse by the band as well. It has interjects of ’s “Human”, which I find slightly random. It’s a short song so it doesn’t get too repetitive, which it easily could, since it’s really the same sound looped again and again.

. Remix
really takes the “Human” part of this track and runs with it, where by for the first 1:30 you would think this is a song, until the vocals kicks in. This mix is a lot more urgent and darker. The sound is stripped to a raw, electro beat that creates a moody current to the track. The summery, sunny feel is certainly lost. It, however, is also filled with plenty of synthesizer bleeps and sounds.

. Remix
This is a fun remix. keep the initial, summery pop to the song but soon layer on thick and heavy funk beats. It’s extremely bass guitar heavy. It really sounds nothing like the original, save for a few appearances of the main riff. Synthesizers also run heavy through the mix and it becomes electronic heavy. However, it’s a very relaxing sound and atmosphere that is created.

. Remix
This is a whole ‘nother world that sounds nothing like the song it originated from. Vega throws down a buzzed, beat heavy line throughout the mix and builds around that, from synth whistles and gyrations to use of the original’s vocals. It’s a sort of trance state of mind with plenty of layers and house beats.
