Everyday/Everynight will soon hold a release show for their third-full length album within three years on June 5 at the Record Bar.
An impressive feat in itself, this is also their strongest and most diverse record yet.
Appropriately titled etc., this album reaches beyond indie-folk boundaries while remaining reflective, honest and sincere but subtle, allowing the listener to discover and fill in the meaning of their often cryptic lyrics.
And it’s quite the jump from their coming-of-age themed debut record, Moon Phases; their latest material is more refined and showcases their natural progression into a more ambient, post-rock sound where they’ve also successfully utilized their voices as instruments to stir emotions.
But not all of the songs on this record follow a mellow, slow strumming structure. “Body Electric,” “Memory #3” and the short transition “I (Cannot) Sleep” explore genres from dance-electronic to more experimental rock. The true surprise on this record is the last track, “You’ve Died In A Dream,” which is much more upbeat and slightly brushes the surf-pop genre.
Not many bands evolve – or can evolve – in such a great way over such a short period of time, and this record reveals how hard these four musicians have been working over the years – if they’ve come this far in three years, imagine where they’ll be in a few more.
I know I will continue to listen.
