It was announced on November 21, 2011 that members of Thrice would be taking some time off after their upcoming tour. Front man, Dustin Kensrue, stated that the band is not breaking up, however after thirteen years of relentless touring and recording, it’s time for a bit of repose:
“Thrice is not breaking up. If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could.
However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the Spring will be the last one for the foreseeable future.
Playing music for the past 13 years with Riley, Ed, and Teppei has been such a gift. We have been able to see the world, share music with thousands and thousands of people, and make records with a variety of talented and inspiring people. The four of us have been through many highs and lows and overcome them together…”

Good things come to those who wait. So for those who have been waiting the very long, seven-year wait for a new release from Manhattan, Kansas’ Ultimate Fakebook, expect very good things. Heck, even if you’ve never heard of the band before this post, you can expect very good things.
After a seven-year hiatus, the power pop group is issuing a new full-length, Daydream Radio Is Smiling Static. The album is a collection of lost recordings from 2000-2003: 16 originals and a Guided By Voices cover. You can stream it in its entirety below or at ufbrocks.com. Then, if you like what you hear (which we’re betting you will), you can download the album for free just by exchanging your email address for the album.
“Half of these songs were written and recorded to be a follow up to Laughing Week and the
other half were written after 2003’s Open Up and Say Awesome, which was our last album
as a band,” says vocalist Bill McShane of Daydream Radio. “This is 100% a gift to our fans, and we hope that we can gain some new fans as well. Sometimes it just takes awhile for the stars to align.”
July also commemorates the 10th anniversary of the band’s This Will Be Laughing Week, a record that gained the outfit some mainstream success with its Sony/Epic Records release thanks to its catchy hooks, which helped earn the band a loyal fan base.

Dave Matthews Band has announced on its website that after 20 years of non-stop touring, they’ll take 2011 off.
The band has never taken a break from touring since they formed and are one of the most successful touring bands in music history (They’ve sold 11,230,696 tickets to 547 shows in 2000-2009 almost exclusively in North America, according to Billboard).
The posted on davematthewsband.com:
As we feel the excitement building for this summer, we wanted to let everyone know that after 20 years of consecutive touring, Dave Matthews Band will be taking 2011 off. We feel lucky that our tours are a part of so many people’s lives, and wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible. We’re excited to make this summer one of our best tours yet, and look forward to returning to the road in 2012.
The break follows the band’s summer tour run and headlining slots at festivals such as Bonnaroo and Mile High Music Fest.
